Robert was raised in Uranium City, Saskatchewan, the son of a Jazz musician and pipefitter.
Attending High School in Caronport, Saskatchewan, he joined the school choir and began learning piano. In 1970 he travelled the Canadian Prairies in a selected group from the choir during spring break. After High School he went on to the Okanagan Bible Institute where he continued in choir ministry and a group called Earthen Vessels. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta where he sang in his local church quartet," The Smooth Tones". He also ministered in a trio ," Liberty". Later he was scouted at a coffee house concert by members of the group Faith Unlimited, a soul gospel accappella group. In 1984 he was hired as the lead singer in a musical, "The Tent Meeting" performing in Calgary (Pumphouse Theatre and Edmonton, Alberta (fringe festival). 1985-1987 he attended Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton as a vocal major (Jazz faculty). Robert moved to Toronto Ontario in 1987. He was invited by a former member of "Faith Unlimited". Upon settling there he sang in "The Voice," as a lead. (Easter Musicial-Queensway Cathedral) He went on to sing in an off Broadway musical, "Tell The World" in New York, NY-performing an original composition, "No More From A Distance". He sang in the host church services in Brownsville (Brooklyn, NY) between acts of the musical. For approx 8 years Robert was a member of two southern gospel quartets "Sonshine City Quartet" (Barrie,On) and "MiddleCross Quartet" (Burlington,Ont). These were two very busy groups appearing on 100 Huntley Street (Cdn.Christian TV program). They travelled to Alberta for the premier year of the Southern Gospel Convention Canada, Red Deer, and the Gospel Jambouree "Eagles Nest Ranch", Elk Water Alberta. The group MiddleCross travelled as far south as Tennessee where the group opened for " Gold City Quartet", the top US southern gospel group. He was led to become involved in the praise team of his local church in Mississauga, Ont. For many years he ministered part-time at various churches and in volunteer prison chaplaincy. In 2005 he was invited to participate in a TV Gospel series, The Gospel Challenge produced by Riddle Films and Vision TV. The Series still airs nationally. While ministering with the Toronto Mass Choir touring in the US in the summer of 1990, Robert met his soon to be wife, Mervylyn. Several years later after much prayer and seeking God`s direction, the couple relocated to Medicine Hat, Alberta in the spring of 2007.They are now both active in their local church Hillcrest Church .Robert and his wife both work in the the praise ministry at Hillcrest. Robert is available for ministry in your church. His rich tenor voice will soothe the broken hearted and bring encouragement and inspiration to those who have lost hope.
